Jubiliee Testimonies

This is a time to look back and reclaim the feeling, assurance, commitment, and love we have for the Lord Jesus Christ. You can revisit the 50 days of Jubilee Testimonies to view previously published testimony letters from our congregation.

Day 48: There is Joy in the Lord

PDF Print E-mail

This “old” Church of God hymn sums up my walk with the Lord.  He has blessed my life with so many wonderful experiences, family, and friends.  I don’t have that empty feeling that so many experience because Christ has filled it with His love, peace, and joy.  The hymn says, “I will shout I am free!  In my blessed loving Savior I have sweet victory!”  My Father is the Creator of all things, what have I to fear?  Another verse states, “I am safe and secure.”  Isn’t that what we all want?  Only God can give us that assurance.  The last stanza talks of the time of our final day on earth and an eternity with MY LORD and MY KING.  It says I will sing with holy angels.  That’s exactly what a musical person wants to hear…singing with the ultimate choir.

Day 46: We are the Church

Since I first accepted Christ as my personal Savior, the meaning of the church has meant different things in my life. I was a teenager going to church with a friend to a little country church when the church had an evangelist come. He wasn’t a dynamic speaker by any means. A far cry from the ones you see on TV or in the movies!  There was just something about what he had to say that touched my heart like it never had been touched before. I couldn’t tell you his name the second after I left the altar.  One thing I did now, I did know the name of Jesus. At that time church was a building.  I didn’t equate it with people.

Day 44: The Basics

Heritage – going back to one’s roots; returning to the basics.

In the year of Jubilee, all the inherited land reverted back to the original family ownership. It was a protection for each tribe and it was a reminder that God had given each tribe a specific territory. If you sold it, the price was determined by how many years were left before Jubilee because you knew when Jubilee came and the land would go back to the original family.

Day 47: Why Am I Here?

PDF Print E-mail

When my daughter was just about eight years old, we started attending a small church in Holland where we felt very comfortable.   The Word of God was preached and practiced.  We made many close friends and the congregation became our family.   Our spiritual and social lives were centered with these people.

As often happens, things change.  We acquired a new pastor who after a few years, very unexpectedly split our congregation and our building was closed and sold.  These events caused me to feel betrayal, anger, and sadness at the loss of my church and church family.  So why am I here at Heritage Church of God?

Day 45: Keeping My Strength

PDF Print E-mail

On what do you depend? Do you rely on your own wisdom and strength?  Do you ever feel alone or deserted, especially when you have exhausted your own strength and power?

I believe there are times in all our lives when we all need to take stock of who we are and just where we put our faith. For me, this is where this church – Heritage Church of God – plays a major part in my life. It is the place I come to keep me grounded in Christ. It is a place to come see God at work, as well as work for God. It is the place God has chosen for me to come where I can hear His word, listen to His music, and find the friendship and joyful fellowship with other believers.  It helps me to keep God’s fire alive in me.

Day 43: My Church Family

PDF Print E-mail

My daughters were looking for a team to play softball with and WPOS was looking for women softball players. Heritage Church of God needed two girls so my daughters were placed on their team. Eventually they began attending church at Heritage. One Sunday my daughter, Jeannie, was asked to sing a special which prompted the girls to ask my wife and me to church.
